About Us

Mavern House is a warm and welcoming care home in Shaw, Wiltshire

We pride ourselves on our personalised, nurturing and compassionate approach.

We believe wholeheartedly that the care given at Mavern House makes a very positive difference to the lives of residents and their loved ones.

Moving to Mavern House represents a new chapter in people’s lives and our aim is to make this a very positive transition. We believe that life is to be lived fully and we provide the opportunity for residents to enjoy new experiences and meet new friends whilst also staying close to their loved ones.

We are very proud of the reputation that we hold. Year on year, feedback from our residents, their families, local GPs and linked care professionals tells us we provide a genuinely high level of care.

OUR APPROACH

We have a clearly defined set of values that are well communicated and upheld across all that we do at Mavern House. Residents’ individual well-being is our focus and our mission is to eliminate any negative feelings, replacing them with feelings of dignity, safety and warmth. The genuine relationships we develop with residents and their loved ones underpin these principles.

This philosophy is woven through the home and each and every staff member undertakes an intensive education programme as well as annual updates and ongoing supervision focussed on the principles.

At Mavern House people live in resident communities where they are cared for by a dedicated group of team members who get to know them personally ensuring they are cared about rather than just cared for. Those who live with us want, need and deserve autonomy in their daily lives and our model of care builds on their individual strengths and skills.

At Mavern House residents are encouraged to live as independently as possible and enjoy life whilst being supported by the highest standards of care. Relationships of every kind are at the heart of all we do and we work hard to nurture and develop them.

OUR TEAM

Recognising that care is needed on both a practical and emotional level, our team are genuine carers who willingly take the time to ensure that all those living at Mavern House benefit from being part of our happy family.

Beginning with the recruitment process, our team are hand-picked for their personal qualities including warmth and compassion, as much as their professional experience.

We value our team as our greatest resource and they all have the opportunity to progress their education and personal development, far beyond the statutory training requirements. All team members are fully educated in care and complete regular refresher courses to keep everyone focused on the values that we espouse.

The leaders of Mavern House are always approachable and open. Because we believe in families’ continued involvement with their loved ones’ care, they spend a great deal of time developing relationships with people who live at Mavern House and their families.

The key management tasks are divided across our senior team which frees up our Manager, Justine Old, to link very closely with everyone on a day to day level.

ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES

A unique part of living at Mavern House is our arts and health enrichment programme designed to stimulate, provoke and add spontaneity. Residents are free to join in with whatever inspires them and the emphasis is always on having fun and relaxing.

On a daily basis we provide opportunities for fun and mind-stretching activities tailored to individual needs and abilities.  We are well known for our wonderful arts and wellbeing enrichment activities which aim to ensure our residents continue to experience new things, have opportunities, be stimulated and can be creative.

We have an artist in residence who encourages creative activities.  With her rainbow palette of materials, she welcomes anyone who’d like to get stuck in and enjoy rediscovering their creative talents or experiencing them for the first time.

We also offer a healthy mix of mind-stretching activities that are familiar and fun including: board games, crosswords, jigsaw puzzles, discussion groups, film club, reading group, storytelling and reminiscence, icing cakes, making jam, going for a walk and our community choir gives several performances each year.

Beyond this, the team are always on the lookout for opportunities to enrich daily life and have some fun with our residents.
