FAQs
Please find below the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions about Mavern House. If you can’t find the information you are looking for, or would like any further information, please contact us to find out more. We would love to hear from you.
Q. What is the Eden Alternative philosophy of care?
The Eden Alternative is a global ‘care philosophy’ developed by Dr Bill Thomas of the US in the 90’s, who, as a consulting New York Geriatrician, became determined to address Care Home Residents’ feelings of loneliness, helplessness and boredom as he saw them.
It is an internationally recognised care standard, which places human growth at the core, enabling residents to be far more than a set of physical symptoms - as in the traditional medical model of elderly care.

Q. What are the bedrooms like?
Our homely bedrooms have everything you might need but we support and we encourage you to personalise your own space and create a room that reflects who you are and one that you will feel totally at home in.
The vast majority of the rooms are en-suite.

Delicious and nutritious meals are served every day, with a varied choice of dishes designed to suit our residents’ tastes and preferences. Our menus offer a range of familiar favourites alongside plenty of variety, with alternatives available each day to ensure there is something for everyone to enjoy.
We understand that everyone has their own likes and dislikes, so our team takes the time to get to know each resident’s individual preferences. A selection of snacks, treats and refreshments is also available throughout the day.
We can cater for a wide range of dietary requirements, including specialist and texture-modified diets, ensuring residents can enjoy meals that are both suitable for their needs and enjoyable

Q: What type of care do you offer?
At Mavern House we provide Residential, Dementia, Nursing, Respite or rehabilitation and end of life care.
We regularly assess the care we are providing and ensure that it is tailored to residents’ current needs and requirements and should the care requirements change, it’s no problem!
Q: How will you help me to settle in?
Our experienced team is passionate about welcoming and integrating each resident to their new home, and we will take as much time as you need to help you do so.
When residents join Mavern House, we will listen and document how they would like their daily life to be in a Personal Care Plan with contributions from family and loved ones.
This plan will be regularly reviewed which provides the opportunity to make changes and improvements as necessary. This way we can be sure we are getting this right.
Residents are encouraged to bring personal items, such as photographs, ornaments, etc. to make their room truly their own.
